Professor Marit Skivenes delivered the presentation “Remarks on Child Rights in Constitutions, Law and Populations” at the launch of the book Child-Centred Music Therapy: Integrating Best Interest of the Child into Theory, Research, and Practice, Nygårdsgaten 5, University of Bergen, on 22 May 2025. The book is authored by Professor Viggo Krüger (UiB) and Assistant Professor/Program Director Kathleen M. Murphy, and is published open access by Palgrave Macmillan.
The book draws on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a framework for exploring what children’s rights to participation, provision, and protection mean for music therapy theory, research, and practice. It examines how the UNCRC can serve as a normative toolkit for music therapy with children and adolescents across a range of contexts, including family and alternative care, educational settings, mental health, and paediatric care, with a concluding focus on ethical and child-centred research approaches.
