SUMMARY:PhD Course: Effects of Lawfare (Child Rights)
DESCRIPTION:During Bergen Exchange\, Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism will contribute to the PhD Course “Effects of Lawfare: Courts and law as battlegrounds for social change“. \n \nThe course combines lectures specifically designed for the course and participation in lectures\, panels\, round-tables\, and workshops of the Bergen Exchanges on Law & Social Transformation. In addition to the general track\, there are two options of specialization: Effects of Lawfare concerning Child Rights and Health Rights. \nCourse content\nThe course offers an introduction to the debates on the potential and limits of law as an instrument of social change\, and opportunities to engage with some of the foremost scholars in the field\, and international research projects currently seeking better answers to these questions. \nCredit\nStudents will receive 3 ECTS for participating in the course (80% of seminars)\, submission of paper abstract (150-300 words)\, and presentation of their own work to the other participants. \nStudents who submit a publishable journal article (4\,000-6\,000 words\, with an additional reading list of 500 pages\, which can be from the elective reading list) by 14 October 2018 are awarded an additional 7 ECTS. (Postdoctoral researchers and MA level students will be accepted if space permits). \nFree course\nThe PhD course is free of charge and open to applicant from Norwegian and international institutions on a first-come first serve basis. SUMMARY:Bergen Exchanges: Rights of the child
DESCRIPTION:CONFERENCE: Two days of presentations and discussions on topics related to rights of children. Events are open and free of charge\, and are also streamed live.\nThe Bergen Exchanges on Law & Social Transformation is a meeting place for scholars and practitioners who seek to understand how law serves as an instrument of change and how it shapes\, and is shaped\, by power relations. During a week of public discussions\, the strategic use of rights\, law and how legal institutions function as arenas for political contestation (lawfare) is examined. \nThe two last days of Bergen Exchanges 2018 will have a special focus on “Rights of the Child”.
