Professor Marit Skivenes has recently been invited to speak in a research seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 19-20 November 2025. Titled “Children, Youth and Crime in the Welfare State“, the seminar was organised by the Danish Center for Social Science Research (VIVE). Many researchers from Denmark (VIVE), Finland (Tampere University, University of Eastern Finland, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare), Norway (University of Bergen, Norwegian University of Science and Technology), and Sweden (Stockholm University, Linnaeus University) attended the two-day seminar.
The seminar kicked off with an introduction to ongoing research projects at VIVE, followed by a presentation of recent developments in child welfare and crime prevention in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Professor Skivenes showcased the Norwegian recent policy developments from 2023 to 2025, covering the publications of documents that touched upon the topic of children and youth crimes from white papers, law and budget plan propositions, and expert reports, along with new initiatives from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in handling youth crimes in Norway.
